dragoon811So, apparently, the thing to do still is to post what we got for Christmas.
Oddly, I have found it difficult to do this as I have gotten older. I take pleasure and joy in what I was given, and like my gifts very much, but since people keep asking me, I guess I shall post it lol.
Not saying that posting this stuff is bad!!!! I just find it harder to do lol.
Before I left for Canada, my dad sent me a lovely check. Most of which has been spent on luggage to and from Canada. The rest shall combine with my lovely amazon.com gift certificate from my work to purchase something - or somethings - shiny and Harry Potter-related. (at least I am honest. Cannot decide if I desire a poster more, or a Snape figure. Or a Gambit from XMen figure. Seriously. Fangirling left and right lol.)
So, I shall list gifts here. :) I have many cards from lovely people, though! :-D I love getting mail <3 One of the nice ones was (I'm sorry, Anastasia, too tired to remember your lj name. star_healer .She gave me a drawing of Makoto offering a cupcake to Snape. It's adorable. Also, a pretty star ornament, and some stickers! Very glittery, and currently living in the envelope so I do not lose any pieces before I get fully unpacked from my trip. :)
My mom also gave me a super-absorbent hair towel (yay!), and my sister gave me a turtle necklace that I am worried I will break on it's long fragile chain....that, or my boobs will eat it, lol.pagenfox was very awesome and sent me a Sailor Jupiter cell phone charm! :-D I have set it to dangling prettily from my nintendo DS. <3
I suppose I have had two Christmases, so let me start with Canada! Also, I am tired, please forgive me if I have forgotten something.
Canada:
*Candice & Ray (Bobby's brother and his wife) gave me the Barbie Perfect Christmas movie (It looks awful, I am so excited to see it I love these movies!), and some awesome and adorable tokidoki makeup brushes!!
*Jeff (Bobby's dad) gave me a very nice card and a little cash. :)
*Annie (Bobby's mom) gave me a shoebox containing chocolate, bulk pencils, 4 packs of gum, a toothbrush, a bar of soap, and a box of tissues. Utterly hysterical. Apparently, Annie's gifts are a source of legendary amusement.
*Bobby gave me some lovely gifts <3 I have an amazing boyfriend ;). The day I arrived, he handed me a copy of Star Wars: The Old Republic (hereafter referred to as TOR or SW:TOR). Nerd win~! On Christmas he gave me 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, as well as Journey to the Center of the Earth (by Jules Verne. My copy of Leagues is long missing, and I enjoyed borrowing Journey from the library repeatedly.) He also gave me the three volumes of Absolute Boyfriend that I had been missing (yaaaaay!), AND the amazing amazing man ALSO replaced one of my favorite books, The Empty Crown, in new condition in hardcover!!! My copy (hardcover) is literally read to pieces. I am so thrilled!!! I read the whole thing in about four hours <3
So, I flew home on Wednesday. :) Discovered two boxes awaiting me. One was filled with wrapped presents, which we placed under the tree, the other....I believe the term was "box of deplorable rubbish". I am not digging out my cell phone to see for sure what goddessastra called it.
Oh lord, it was HYSTERICAL. I was glad I was sitting on the floor, I was laughing so hard I may have fallen right off the couch!!!! She sent me one of my photo boxes that I had left in her house (because I am a terribly friend who left crap there. Sorry.), and she added a coinpurse (complete with loose change), a bracelet, a cell phone charm, (all three from the Phillipines.), some candy (also from the Philipines), a money toy, a wooden bead, a wire cage with foil from a champagne bottle (oh god, I died laughing), a figure of a man in a barrel (and when you lift the barrel, his massive penis pops up. He is amazing and I love him.), a walnut (which my cat has taken to batting around), some neat cooking papers (called COOK THIS lol), and a card-sized advert (in full color) for sexy call girls from Vegas...oh lord. I was laughing for hours. STILL laughing, actually. Astra, I love you, don't ever change. You are INSANE and I love it. Can't wait for my birthday!!!!! Keep in mind, I'll be in Canada so it may have to go through customs. Have fun with that lol.
And now I am home!!! :-D
Tonight, we celebrated Christmas - dragged all of the bloody gifts to Grinnie's (grandmother) house.
Grinnie gave me some embroidery floss, hoops, and needles (yay!!!!), a pattern kit, and a gift card to JoAnn's!!! Yay! :-D I have missed embroidery, and look forward to getting some shinies. She also gave me a piece of yummy chocolate. :)
Allie gave me some Corningware (SO happy!!!! I shall have to wait to open it until Canada lol). and a super awesome Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 blu ray (one of 5500!!!)!! :-D (Tomorrow I am going to Best Buy. Oops, I don't own Part 1. Bad fangirl. Go to Professor Snape's room.)
I opened a box from my dad containing delicious tea!!! :-D I love PG Tips :)
My other grandmother, Nammy, gave me a check. :)
My awesome Cloney gave me a pez dispenser, a train charm with a tag that reads "One Way Ticket London to Hogwarts", some FUCKING AWESOME envelopes she made, a radical bracelet she braided (in black and green, quite lovely!!! I want to do something special with it!!), a large book of manga (In Japanese lol), a book on Japanese, and an awesome new address book! :-D I also received a Christmas ornament in the shape of a teacup and saucer. Really cute ^__^.
From my mom I got an AWESOME Maleficent figure. It's a cute chibi-ish thing. It's frakking adorable and I can't wait to display her on my bookshelf!!!! XD I also got a Rapunzel (Tangled) ornament, a watch I can wear (it's on a thin chain, and doesn't bother me. Ever since my car accident, I've found it very difficult to wear most bracelets, even. I freak out. This I can wear and it is cute!!! Yaaaay!), uh.... so tired, can't think.... the Harry Potter FILM WIZARDRY book! YAY!!! :-D (I decided that work/Nammy is buying me Film to Screen and have subsequently ordered it lol), um.... honestly cannot recall.
I am tired and my eye is twitching. I'm still mentally 3 hours ahead, so it is 5:30 am for me and I am dead on my bum.

Chocolate, probably, something he really wouldn't have had much of as a child, and since he wouldn't have had money for hogsmeade, either... he probably discovered his sweet tooth at a Halloween feast or something; maybe Lily told him to try it, or gave him his first piece of candy (so he'd even have a favorite muggle sweet!!)... and he's been secretive of it ever since, thinking it a weakness. I doubt he'd eat sweets in public - The man DOES play things close to the vest. He probably has a secret stash in his room and doles them out to himself, but kind of hoards them.

Then again, I also like to think that he keeps abreast of muggle technology. I can't see him, as brilliant as he is, not keeping in touch with it. After all, who knows when it may become useful to him? What if he'd have to run at some point and live as a muggle? I think he'd keep on top of it all.
Actually, he probably has an old Nintendo in his "potions lab" with a telly. He moved it there to hide it from anyone who might stop by, you see, or like when he had Wormtail there. He also probably is familiar with a computer, but does not own one.
While I don't think he has a car, since he can apparate and is at Hogwarts for 3/4 of the year, he probably has the funds for one, just in case.
And I MUST be a true supporter..which is why there's a Snamione fic unwritten in my head....gestating...

I totally can. Mobiles...we had a car phone before 98, for sure, and honestly, mobiles caught on in Europe much faster than the US, so probably. Computers were common. Besides, I don't see him letting the grass grow under his feet. He'd keep the knowledge to have it, but he wouldn't necessarily use it.
He'd prolly have an old telly, though, not something new. I don't see him having a mobile, but he'd know about them and their general use and purpose. Same with computers. He would probably get one once the laptops came out, if only to have all his research in one easy to dash-and-go place if he had to run. So he would know about them, know how to use one, but wouldn't own it. I dunno about the nintendo... I see him as having seen kids having one, and once he took the job as Potions Professor and had an income, splurging just a little to have something he didn't have as a child. So he'd probably hide it, think it a weakness.
As for the fic.... idk.... it's gestating, difficult to start, I suppose lol.

I can see him seeing a Nintendo if he went to Lily's, though. We know he didn't stay shut up in the house all day. I can definitely see him wandering around outside, or going to the library, or wandering around town, maybe hearing about it or seeing it there. For all we know, other kids from the non-Spinner's End side of town went to the playpark as well, and mocked him. (Maybe also why he was so slow to approach Lily, and why Petunia pissed him off so much) He probably viewed it as a status symbol of sorts, and really wanted one as a child, and it's his one little moment-of-weakness purchase that he hides from everyone lol. Probably actually picked up a used one, even, with a couple of games.
I don't see him really buying new things a lot. I'm sure he has the best made clothes he can, and takes very good care of them (most likely originally so he could fit in with the pureblood crowd. I can see Lucius backing him at first.). He definitely loves to read, so books are his weakness, and while he takes care of them, be probably stacks them everywhere. I imagine he has them in the toilet, the kitchen...everywhere in some manner. He probably also keeps his potions ingredients up to date.
I think that he makes an expensive purchase for good-quality items, then the little boy who grew up poor inside of him makes sure he takes the very best care of them, and is probably upset with himself when he has to replace them.
I also don't get why people in fanfics portray him as going out and getting drunk. I don't see him as a drinker, really. When Bella and Cissa were at his home, he pretty much held his glass. He didn't drink much if at all. He may enjoy a small drink, but I see him as nursing it. After his father's habits, he most likely limits himself strictly. And as a spy, I don't see him randomly going off to pubs. As a teacher, he'd probably view it as inappropriate lol.
I see him as having excellent cooking skills, and enjoying it, but getting too absorbed into research when he is home to actually cook much. He probably forgets to take care of himself.

Taking time to view all the books...and loving books. And from the description of Spinners End, I take great satisfaction in knowing he is a prolific reader.
I haven't read any fanfics like that actually o-o I think I read one story where he was drunk. And that was a weird fanfic with pink flamingoes. And so long ago.
Hmm cooking skills do follow a similar likeness to potion-making so I can accept that. I don't recall if he had a house-elf at Spinners end? Unlikely as he wasn't there much and well I don't think there are facilities for him at Hogwarts really, also it would be far more simple to rely on those house elves unless he had a personal belief against their use and servitude. Which would be interesting to know if he did...
I love thinking about him (it is also a good sign of a good book if we can do this) but then it pains me when I remember his life. I'd like to think he did have good moments or respite or things he did enjoy despite everything...and I am not thinking about all the bad things *la la la la la la*

There are several I've read where he gets drunk, or drinks almost every night. Very not what I think lol.
I don't think he would trust a house elf at his home - we know he's secretive. He probably has firm rules for whatever elf he's assigned at Hogwarts lol. I can see him preferring to take care of most things himself. I can't see him with his own house elf.
I do think Potions have a lot in common with cooking. He would probably also take joy in having food - we know he was neglected if not abused, definitely underfed away from school (assuming he showed up to many meals, where he'd become an easy-to-find target for the Marauders). So I can see him taking a private joy in cooking as he grew older. And it's Snape - he'd want to do it well, too, so he probably is as good a chef as a Potions Master. I mean, the man has to fill his summers somehow.
I bet he plays an instrument. I'd peg him for violin or guitar. Guitar because of the music he'd have heard growing up, but violin for its connotations to wealth, since we know he wanted to fit in with the aristocratic pure bloods at some point.
For that matter, I bet in his basement potions lab he has most of a new potions textbook written. He IS a bloody potions genius. In fact, I bet it's finished, and he hasn't published it because he doesn't want it to be rejected because of who he is. Head canon (with Snape passed away. T__T.) says that Harry finds it and publishes it and it's now the standard advanced potions book. I think I just made myself sad.
His life makes me sad, too. :( But I totally adore him anyways lol. I DO need to write that fanfic.... eventually. ~_~.

I think he would write a textbook - I think that having to teach inferior knowledge would make him angry. I'm certain he has tons of journals with new potions and ideas. I bet Malfoy has probably backed him with getting them patented, too. I can see him staying close with them (he IS Draco's godfather), and them assisting him with getting them out there. I can definitely see Snape hoarding his funds - he probably inherited the Prince stuff by default, and saved it. Hell, he probably has plenty of money now, but doesn't spend it.
And I don't think he had much time in the books, at least not after Voldemort returned...but the 11 year interim he probably had plenty of time over summer holidays. That's when I think he started writing and compiling. :) So I think he does have all sorts of recipes and journals... but he probably has text books, too.

He would be very careful with his purchases. :) He would like having it, knowing he was finally well off and on par with his pureblood friend, but I definitely don't see him as flaunting it. I can see him keeping cash both muggle and wizard in a safe location or his house, and a muggle bank account - always a way for him to be okay.

And yes, I definitely head canon a lot. Snape doesn't die. Percy, remorseful for how he's treated his family, totally takes the Avada to save Fred. (Percy's a prat, I've decided he's earned a redeeming death lol) And I want Remus and Tonks to both live, so, headcanon, they do. :)

I don't remember what it was called though... I used to have all my fics saved into bookmarks in folders but then my dad wanted my computer for like 5 minutes so I cleared everything out, history - bookmarks - folders. So yeah slowly refinding :c
