My brain is mush because I am sick and I can't do anything productive. (Well, ok, not entirely true. I did some editing on the 8 in-progress chapters of a sshg fic that needs a new name because 'Man with a Silken Schlong' isn't going to cut it.)

Thank goodness my hubby's over the worst - he took care of food today, and did most of the dishes (which had been piling up).

I am going to try to talk him into watching a movie with me once his episode of Digimon is over, and into getting me some ice cream (for my throat, I swear). I'm so exhausted that I'm walking at old-lady speed and everything is "too heavy". Bleh.

You might have strep, that's even nastier and its painful. You will need meds to fix that.

God, I hope it's nothing serious. I don't have a job, neither does the husband, and since I don't have residency here in Canada, I don't have health care at all!! O_o.

I shall have to believe it's a bad cold and go with that!!!

If its cold or flu..there is nothing you can do.

Strep/upper respiratory infections, etc. are bacterial. You are not going to get better on your own.

Strep alone isn't "serious", it's not cancer or a brain eating parasite. But it isn't going to just go away.

So...what do broke people do where you are to get medical care?

If husband is a Candian and you are married to him, you can get care. What's the point of the great Canadian social medical system when folks in your situation can't use it? Seems sort of dumb and illogical. In the USA, you can just go to the emergency room, which is what broke non-residents do here. So if you are near the border, you might try that. You may wait several hours, but you will get care.

I'm going to cross my fingers and vote for not-strep. My sister caught strep several times, and I never caught it from her. :)

I'm married to him, but I'm not actually covered, far as I know, so health care for me wouldn't be "free". I'd still have to pay. Granted, it'd be a fraction of the cost it'd be in the US, but it's still money we don't have.

We've applied for residency for me (since we're married and all), but they changed the form a week after we printed it out and sent it (in November) and just got the entire thing back and have to redo it all. (In good news, we don't have to pay the money again. In bad news, we still have to redo it!)
