Happy 30th Birthday to Me!!

It's past midnight here (going on 1:43am), so I guess it's technically August 12th and no longer my birthday, but I figured I should still share what a FANTASTIC 30th birthday I've had!!
Let me start with... Hmm... Let's start with my first from my sister. Her gift to me was a kitten! Well, she didn't pick out the kitten, but she paid for the adoption fees & whatnot so I could go pick out a kitten.
Last night, I anxiously checked the humane society's page. Did they have any kittens? Last I'd looked, a sole kitten had been at that location. (They seem to get adopted really fast! I prefer a kitten simply because I've never had my own kitten, but I was open to another cat.) There were kittens on the site, including a grey female code-named Jasmine (which is Bobby's 3rd name choice for a daughter lol), so I nervously went to bed.
Today, Bobby and I went to the humane society and I visited the kittens. Oh, there were five in a room. So. Darn. Cute. Atop the cat tree, when I first came in, was this little grey kitten. So I petted her, and liked her (I looked into her pretty eyes and wanted her right away), but sat down to give the other kitties a fair try. There was another grey girl, two black girls, and one grey & white boy kitty. Bobby veto'd the black ones, for immediately attacking his shoelaces. Don't blame him, really.
I tried the sole boy - not out of any real preference for a male cat, but because my husband defaults every animal to "he" - but he wasn't the cuddly type.
Finally, Bobby scooped the first kitten into my lap. She curled up, quite happy. That she was up high while the others played meant she was used to being away and more independent, which is good. I'd have hated to have taken part of a litter and had them come home and miss the hell out of their siblings. ;_;. I was in capitol-L-Love as she purred on me.
We looked at the papers for the cats and it was Jasmine. Meant to be! We took her paper and my application so no one else could claim her, and began the process. We had a collar. We bought a soft blue carrier.
We waited and waited (and pretty much had to pry her out of some old lady's hands by time the adoption was finished, even though they kept telling her that cat was taken) and FINALLY it was all done and paid for and I got to bring her home.
Her name is now Penny, short for Pensieve, for she is a quiet and thoughtful little kitty, the same misty-silvery-grey that I thought that memories would be when I read they books. I utterly ADORE her. She's playful, yes, but terribly cuddly. She loves my shoulders, my chest... Currently, she's in the bathroom with the door shut and surrounded by her litter box, her food, her water, some toys, and a pillow wrapped in the shirt I wore all day so that she'll be comforted. She's explored the living room and kitchen as well as her bathroom, getting into pretty much everything, but always coming back to me. <3
Now.. the BEST surprise....
Saturday, I'd invited two friends and their baby over for dinner. Bobby had to work until 4:30, and I planned a magnificent Mexican Feast - pork carnitas, salsa & chips, homemade guacamole, chicken enchiladas, and a fried ice cream cake - to share with them.
Bobby got home right on time, and told me to come outside, that there was a present for me in the car. Admittedly, I was slightly annoyed, I'd timed dinner perfectly and it was time to eat, and my birthday wasn't until Monday, I acquiesced. I didn't even realise he'd pulled out his phone to film me, because he's been playing a phone game lately almost constantly when home.
I went outside and it took me a minute to register that standing there with a video camera was Tanya, one of my best friends!!!! SHE LIVES IN ILLINOIS. SHE CAME FOR MY 30TH BIRTHDAY!!!!!!! There was hugging. Much hugging.
I was then told to look in the car for another present. To be honest, I was expecting it to be Cloney, one of my best friends.
I was NOT expecting to turn around and see MY MOM.
Being an utter 12-year-old at heart, I yelled "Mommy!" and ran to hug her. Crying. Because, you know. She's my mom and I haven't seen her since I got married last April, and it was my 30th birthday.... And being me, the third thing I said (after was I love you and I missed you) was "Oh god I hope I have enough food".
Bobby had been planning this surprise for me for MONTHS. So I have had my mom and my bestie here since Saturday. Bobby has off work until Thursday. I have a kitten. Mom took me out to dinner for my birthday, and she's taken us shopping for things we haven't been able to afford. I've had some super-wonderful and unexpected presents from friends, and so many well-wishers.
Life is wonderful, except Mom leaves Tuesday evening, and Tanya Wednesday afternoon. I will miss them so much. :( :(
For those who I'm not Facebook friends with yet, please meet my kitty, Pensieve, also known as Penny:

Date: 2014-08-12 11:25 am (UTC)And you, you know how to celebrate a birthday. I have to admit your comment about prying the kitten out of an old woman's hands funny. I've been there a time or two.
What a great day and thank you for sharing it with us. We will expect lots more photos of your fur baby from here on out!
